Plymouth Farmer’s Market

Plymouth Farmer’s Market

With the summer months upon us, there is a lot taking place. Whether it’s holidays, vacations, road trips, Park & Rec programs or so many other events and activities, people keep busy! However, there are those moments where people merely want to enjoy some fresh air and sunshine while being a part of the community. This is exactly why the Plymouth Farmers Market remains a very popular spot to spend a little extra free-time.

Farmers markets in general are beneficial to attend for so many different reasons and speak to the impact agriculture has had on our history. When the shift from hunting and gathering to farming happened thousands of years ago, people had more leisure time. Because of this, society as a whole changed. Small communities were formed that eventually became large cities as the population of the world continued to grow.

Even though agriculture is such a large part of our history, many people today aren’t in touch with their food and have lost knowing where it comes from or how it is raised. Many people are accustomed to going through a checkout line at a store and not even thinking about how much time, work, and effort goes into the food and products they buy. By going and attending the Plymouth Farmers Market, people are able to learn about their food and talk directly to the farmers that grow and harvest the products they are selling. This helps educate the community about their food and the farms around them, which allows for a greater sense of connection between food, farmers, and community members.

From June to October, the market is located at the Parkers Lake Playfield and occurs on Wednesdays from 2:30- 6:30pm. People are able to walk around and talk to different vendors who sell fresh and locally based products such as fruits and vegetables, bread, oils, honey, maple syrup, ice cream, meats, sauces and various types of flowers. The farmers market also has a newsletter sign up that is sent out weekly and provides information about the farmers market, recipes, health benefits about certain foods people can find at the market, and more.

The Plymouth Farmers Market adds a lot of educational value to the community because it not only reconnects people to their food but enables learning about the farms and businesses that are in the area. It’s a fun experience that can break up the middle of the week while also bringing the community closer together!
