Hilde Performance Center
Our next Club Y.E.S. post comes from Divya Godithi.
Hilde performance center is an excellent site to visit here in Plymouth, Minnesota. The former Mayor of Plymouth, Al Hilde Jr. and his wife Jayne, made a $1 million donation to create this magnificent performance center at 3500 Plymouth Blvd. Hilde performance is an open air performance center located right next to Lifetime Fitness and behind Plymouth City Hall and Cub foods. Al Hilde was Plymouth’s mayor from 1968-1978 and took great interest in dedicating his life to civic and community involvement and activities.
The land that the Hilde Performance Center sits on today belonged a few hundred years ago to another family, the Ditters. Thomas Ditter is known to have owned the land where the Hilde center is now located and the area surrounding it. Thomas Ditter was born in 1845 in Bavaria, Germany though it is not known when he first came to America. It is assumed around the time of 1866 Thomas and his family had moved to Minnesota. By 1892, he had eleven children and had bought a farm in Plymouth Township in Hennepin county, just thirteen miles West of Minneapolis. Towards the end of his life, Thomas also helped build and ensign Plymouth Town Hall which stands just a few streets in front of the Hilde Performance Center. Hilde Performance Center is a great outdoor performance center with a beautiful bandshell with a glass wall built on the backside, which gives the audience a view of the nature surrounding the area. Hilde Center also provides a place to host many fun activities and events for adults and children. Groups like the Minnesota Orchestra perform here every summer and activities for kids like the Kids Koncert are just a few of the many amazing events here at Hilde Performance center in Plymouth, Minnesota.
